The Luke Family History
On June 29th, 1732, Philip Luke (Laux, Loeck, Look, Lauck, and other spelling variations) and Jeremiah Van Rensselaer entered a lease agreement for a farm in the West Manor of Rensselaerwyck located in the present day Town of Bethlehem in Albany County, New York. This moment in time had been over 20 years in the making for Johan Philip Luke who left the Palatinate in Germany in 1709 and arrived in New York harbor in 1710. Early on, he would have resided in one of the Palatine encampments in the Hudson Valley. By 1715, he had taken an Oath of Allegiance in the city of Albany. He was a member of the Reformed Dutch Church in Albany by 1717. Philip Luke managed to cement important relationships with Palatine families as well as with families of some of Albany's earliest settlers. Philip Luke died in 1751 and was buried near his farm. The Luke farm appears on the 1767 Rensselaerwyck Map as #112 Koenrad Louck. Philip Luke's two other sons and two married daughters resided on adjoining properties and are also represented on the 1767 map. The Phillipin Kill (creek) runs right through Philip Luke's original farm and appears on an 1803 farm survey of the property. The farm remained in the hands of the Luke family until 1891. Heirs of Philip Luke still reside in Albany County and throughout the United States and Canada. I am researching the Luke family of Albany County. This is an original genealogical study of the Luke Family Tree. This study has been done from scratch with source information obtained from Libraries, Archives, Town Halls, Public Records, Census and Cemetery visits. The study includes thousands of individuals and hundreds of surnames. Find many early Colonial surnames such as Bradt, Burhans, DeFreest, Flansburg, Goewey, Houck, Hotaling, Mathias, Moak, Philips, Reamer, Slingerland, Spawn, Van Allen, Van Duesen, Van Wie, Van Wormer, Winnie and many more.
